Gukta Protects Its Own

Verant/SOE

Freeport Observer:: }-------------------------} Vol. 9 No. 4 ~ Gukta Protects Its Own ~

While the residents of the Commonlands are struggling with the real danger of the Teir'Dal, the Frogloks of Gukta have responded by increasing the presence of armed Guktan troops in the swamps of Innothule. Gukta is located far south beyond the deserts of Ro, far from the Dark Elves hate filled grasp.

It is well known that it was the Frogloks of Gukta who invaded the long established Troll city of Grobb. They ejected the Trolls and renamed Grobb to Gukta. The exiled Trolls took refuge in the dark caverns of Neriak and remained loosely organized calling themselves "Clan Grobb". Just recently the leader of these exiled Trolls was slain right inside the gates of Neriak.

The Frogloks cower while we bare the brunt of the response for their actions!" claims a Freeport citizen. "They were the ones that organized the raid on Neriak! They wanted to kill a few more Trolls! The history between the Frogloks and the Trolls go way back! They probably had some reason to want the Troll leader dead and that's why Neriak is in an uproar!

Those slimy toads should be sending their troops here! It is Freeport that is within Neriak's grasp! It is Freeport that is suffering under the sharp hatred of the Teir'Dal blades while the swamps of Innothule remain silent!"

The populace of Freeport is uneasy with the inaction of the Temple of Marr. The citizens of Freeport seem unwilling to tolerate inaction much longer. Due to heigtened security and awareness the death toll has gone down, but the Teir'Dal raids remain fierce.

~ Observer Slain in the Commonlands ~

One of our own, Larthos Woolmark, was slain while doing a follow up report with the young Freeport corporal Varus mentioned in Vol. 9 No. 3. While patrolling close to the borders of Nektulos a raiding party attacked Varus and his patrol. One survivor of the attack tells his story

Our patrol had noticed movement behind one of the abandoned buildings in the Commonlands. As we approached we found ourselves in an ambush, several raiders sprung from tall grasses near the building. They were hastened by a large Troll shaman and they were all over us before we even knew it. The next thing I remember is waking up in the tall grass; my head ringing. I removed a crossbow bolt that had pierced my helmet, the Dark Elves must have thought it had killed me, but the tip of the bolt was bent by my militia helmet and the bolt bounced off my head. I looked around me and everyone was dead. Varus had several bolts in his backside; the rest had been killed by stab wounds. I turned and saw Larthos, his parchment bloodied to the point where it was illegible, his sword still sheathed."

Freeport has lost one of its best militia officers, several loyal guardsmen and one of its best reporters. The observer will be hosting a memorial service, for these soldiers at the Theater of the Tranquil in the coming days.
