Fall From Grace -- The Dromrek

When the Rallosian Army failed to conquer the Plane of Earth, the Council of the Rathe crafted a curse to be exacted upon those who dared take arms against another god's realm. While the Rathe crafted the curse, the other greater gods agreed the punishment was fair. Given the severity of the crime, some gods felt it too lenient -- Cazic-Thule and Innoruuk, to name two. The curse was more a tactical magic, than a malicious one.

The curse would dim the wits of the Rallosian Army so that they would simply not have the ability to access the planar realms on their own again, at least not without significant help -- help that Rallos Zek agreed to never give again, not that he had another choice. Because of the Warlord's actions, the greater gods became bound to their planes and were forbidden to cross over into others.

The Council of the Rathe laid the curse into the earth of the Serpent Spine Mountains where it crept and crawled seeking the entire Rallosian Army. Like strangling vines, the fingers of the curse sapped the intelligence of the Rallosians. Many tried to flee the unseen curse as they watched their brethren dull.

The giant House of Dromrek were a selfish, yet tight-knit family, who lived to the far north of Krithgor. They made a pilgrimage to Krithgor when the call came to join the Rallosian Army in their attack on the Plane of Earth. They were a noble family who, not like many other greater families, took arms against the Rathe. When they heard the news of a disease spreading through Krithgor after the war was lost, the family used their considerable wealth and resources to secretly find and build a new place to call home and escape the strange disease affecting their kinsmen.

Scouts returned with news of a cave hidden near a great mesa which would be a suitable living space. And so their servants would take their goods and possessions to the caves during the night. Confident they would find freedom and health, the family all grabbed the last of their possessions and left Krithgor one dark night.

Grundorg Dromrek, the patriarch of the family, had established the place the family called Dromrek Jaunt, a rather comfortable, yet modest cave dwelling. However, there would be no escape from the curse. In a matter of months, the family began to dull. Their faces and foreheads began to lengthen as they degenerated into a more primitive state. No magic could prevent it.

Now the Dromrek, slovenly and brutish, wander the caves and hills only barely aware of their old family name.
