The Windwillow Spirit

The great shaman giant, Goru'kar D'Toldan, was killed when Solusek Ro raised the spine of the world along the Serpent River. He went valiantly, not quietly.

As the ground shook and cracked around him, Goru'kar used all the magic he could summon from within and around him. He outstretched his arms trying to maintain the land around him, to prevent it from ruin.

But holding the earth together was too much for him and drained far more from him than he had to give. His heart strained and his magic began to fail. He fell into a great heap amongst the willow trees he'd tended and loved for many years. Strangely, the land around him remained at the same level it was as the ground shook, but beyond it the grass and trees had fallen lower. Goru'kar's last act created a great mesa -- a monument to the great giant.

It is said that as Goru'kar's magic and body gave way, it became one with the earth of the mesa. All the magic he used to preserve his home on the day he lost his life connected his spirit there forever. Where Goru'kar's body lay in death, the greatest and tallest willow on Norrath sprouted from the ground.

There are now nymphs that live next to and guard the tree, called the Windwillow. The nymphs believe that Goru'kar's nature spirit is within it and why it grew so tall and sturdy. Using their own magic and powers, the nymphs guard and nourish the Windwillow as the greatest and purest nature spirit.
