The Scale of Veeshan

Verant/SOE

The Scale of Veeshan

The motivations of Veeshan may never be clear, even to her own brood. It is unknown why, but before she departed Norrath she gifted her younglings with a portion of her essence, a sampling of her bloodline. This essence took the shape of a great scale from Veeshan's armored chest, over her heart. This scale is the single most powerful and important artifact for the dragons of Veeshan's brood. It radiates with the essence of what it is to be one of the brood of Veeshan, healing those of the brood that are sick and bringing clarity and power to all the brood.

The dragons of the Nest built an extravagant shrine to shelter and honor the relic given to them by Veeshan. It was their greatest treasure and their most precious secret. It brought luck, fertility and strength to every dragon, hatchling, egg and dragonkin that lived in the Nest. The Scale of Veeshan was one of the primary factors for the decision made by those ancient dragons to hide away from the world. The safety of their eggs was the only concern greater than the safekeeping of their relic.

The shrine, called Ashengate, the Reliquary of Scale, was a grand, open-air structure of old stone, obsidian, and elemental features. Each dragon species contributed to building the reliquary in their own way. It is a monument of rare beauty and architecture that is representative of the elegance and strength of dragon kind.

The shrine had five appointed guardians. The greatest among the five guardians was Lethar the Black. Lethar was the greatest dragon of the Nest and was given the honor of being the Elite Scale Guardian among the guardians of the reliquary. The others were the best of their own breeds, each powerful and clever in their own rights. The red was called Sothgar the Wildfire, he was fierce and impulsive with great cunning. The blue was known as Selay the Cascade, wise and careful, known for her sage advice and unrelenting determination. The green was Vergalid, he was said to have been hatched from an egg carried down a river on a broad leaf. Glenicae was nearly a rival in power to Lethar, but she held no ambition and contented herself in the company of her kin and the light of the Scale of Veeshan. What was not known by all was that Lethar and Selay loved one another, but in keeping with dragon law, never formed the relationship they often dreamed of.

Only a short time ago, a band of drakkin set out to the mountains to reclaim the scale for all dragon kind. Their fate remains a mystery.
