The Shadow Odyssey – Finale Script
Bayle and his companions You say, “Hail, Professor Fondfate”
Professor Fondfate says to you, “I can hear them! Can you hear them?”
You say to Professor Fondfate, “Hear what?”
Professor Fondfate says to you, “Why, the drums of war of course! Ykesha is marching on Brokenskull Rock! We’ve done it!”
You say to Professor Fondfate, “What now?!”
Professor Fondfate says to you, “Join in the fray! Further ensure Ykeshan victory by taking down groups of Brokenskull defenders from around the swamp and down by the Shanty and Brokenskull Rock!”
Professor Fondfate, “Very well. I’m off!”
Professor Fondfate says to you, “We’ve done it! The Brokenskull are running scared!”
You say to Professor Fondfate, “Yes!”
You say to Professor Fondfate, “To victory!”
Professor Fondfate says, “Quickly now, before they can recover, enter the Void and use the Staff to destroy the final anchor!”
You have entered Palace of Ferzhul.
Maldormous Exetera says in Words of Shade, “You cannot fathom the power of the artifacts we possess.”
Maldormous Exetera says in Words of Shade, “DIE!”
Maldormous Exetera says in Words of Shade, “I will crush you!”
Maldormous Exetera says in Words of Shade, “You meddling infants have disrupted my channeling!”
Llalortusa says in Words of Shade, “As the comet rises, your dooms arrive!”
Llalortusa says in Words of Shade, “How did our defenses backfire?!”
D’decilla says in Words of Shade, “No! How is this possible?”
Mewayea says in Words of Shade, “The protections are gone, slay them quickly before they can take advantage!”
Ferzhula says in Words of Shade, “This is OUR place, you are not welcome.”
Ferzhula says in Words of Shade, “This ends now!”
Ferzhula says in Words of Shade, “Supplicants, to me! Now!”
Nurgg Rockchest says, “It is good you have come.”
Kaltuk Ironstein says, “We’ve been here for so many years… Our wives and children’ve all grown old and died… But we know what we did was right. We know what we did has mattered. And that’s what counts.”
Eylee Zephyrswell says, “You’ve read my stories? Really? They… they brought you here? You don’t know what it means to me to know that!”
Asharae says, “I gave up the Scryona the first time. I have nothing left to give. Nothing! Except… my life, I suppose. Hah. Stop me before I sound sentimental like the bard.”
Kruzz Skullcleaver says, “You here to help us fight! Then we must fight! Nyah!”
Professor A.M. Fiddlewiz says, “…”
Twiddy Bobbick says, “You say you found the Cloudskipper? And something even better’s been built in her place? … That’s all I needed to know. Come at me, Anashti, I’m ready!”
Illisia Marrsheart says, “We are ready for this. We have to be.”
Bayle says to you, “Who are you?”
You say to Bayle, “I’m an adventurer from Norrath, here to stop the invasion of the Void. Are you… the Ethernauts?”
Bayle says to you, “I… thank the gods. You know who we are?”
You say to Bayle, “I do. We’ve been reading the stories written by Eylee. We know all about you and what you did for Norrath. We just didn’t know the end of the story, what happened after the stories were left with Elizerain.”
Bayle says to you, “Yes, you wouldn’t… would you. I’m not the storyteller, so I will only tell you what is important. We were betrayed. Roadyle turned out not to be who he claimed, and he betrayed us. When the rest of the party had gone further in to investigate this palace, he incapacitated Eylee and took the Staff of Theer. We still don’t know exactly who he was, but Eylee swears him for a dark skinned older human, and obviously a very powerful magician. Illisia believes she confronted the same man once before, in a very strange encounter in the Eternal Prism.”
You say to Bayle, “It has to have been Miragul… No wonder he had so many of the runes.”
You say to Bayle, “And that worked?”
Bayle says to you, “We’ve never known exactly what happened. For a few moments, we had to argue about it with Asharae. She maintained it would probably destroy the Scryona, and she clutched it like a woman might a child. We weren’t sure whether we had persuaded her, but in that moment, we were set on by void men from all sides, and in the distance, their mistress, Anashti Sul, screamed at them stop us. ”
You say to Bayle, “What happened then?”
Bayle says to you, “The rest of us turned to fight, shouting at her to do what was necessary to save Norrath. Even little Fiddlewiz and Twiddy gave it their all. We fought believing we would die, focusing only on keeping them away from Asharae. Fortunately, she made the right decision, and I could hear her chanting in a magical language behind us. And then finally, we were surrounded by a shock wave of orange energy.”
You say to Bayle, “And?”
Bayle says to you, “It did… something. All of the portals exploded… and everything else, including the anchor, seemed to go to sleep. Whatever we did, it worked, and Anashti was screaming foully at us. We had all been thrust in different directions by the shockwave, spinning in the Void. It took time to find everyone again, but in time, we did.”
Bayle says to you, “Since then, we’ve done our best to fight the voidmen. It became clear that we weren’t going to age, and we weren’t going to die of natural causes, but I believe that if we had been killed by the voidmen, we wouldn’t have come back. Where we would have gone? I don’t know…”
You say to Bayle, “What a horrible existence…”
Bayle says to you, “It’s not been fun, no. But, well, it’s hard to describe. While I can remember many, many things having happened since I left Norrath, it all blurs together, and it always feels as if we stepped in here only yesterday. ”
You say to Bayle, “Wow…”
Bayle says to you, “How long has it been?”
You say to Bayle, “More than a thousand years… The world has changed dramatically.”
Bayle says to you, “More than a thousand years… I see..”
You say to Bayle, “The Bayle line is well known, now. The name is borne by kings and queens.”
Bayle says to you, “So Danaria’s son grew to be a man? And the Bayle line has continued…? I… I can’t hear anymore, I’m sorry. We need to focus on what needs to be done. We have come here, and you have come here, to sever Anashti Sul’s link to Norrath.”
You say to Bayle, “Yes, yes that’s why I’m here.”
Bayle says to you, “She has the assistant of a mage named Varsoon. He is from Norrath as well, though long after we were there.”
You say to Bayle, “Yes, the mage Varsoon is well known in Norrath. So he ended up in the Void?”
Bayle says to you, “Yes, and was then recruited by Anashti to do her bidding and help her construct portals that would not only allow her to return to Norrath, but also to bring her army and all of the power the Void has given her.”
You say to Bayle, “I see…”
Bayle says to you, “Both of them need to be overcome in order for her to be stopped. We’ve known that we couldn’t take them both, but with your help, it can be done. It is our place to take on Anashti Sul, but you should confront Varsoon. We will take the Staff of Theer with us and use it to destroy her final anchor.”
You say to Bayle, “Here you go.”
Bayle says to you, “If we survive this, we will meet back here. If not… then peace be with you.”
You say to Bayle, “And with you.”
Bayle says to you, “There is nothing more that we wish for more than that.”
You say to Bayle, “I can imagine.”
Bayle says to you, “We will take Anashti. You take Varsoon.”
Valdoartus Varsoon says, “These void artifacts will sustain me, but what will sustain you?”
Valdoartus Varsoon says, “Revenge is a dish best served cold.”
Valdoartus Varsoon says, “”Come to my parlor,” said the spider to the fly.”
Valdoartus Varsoon says, “These flames will feed on your power, so join me within them. They cannot destroy me, but I look forward to watching you BURN!”
Valdoartus Varsoon says, “Stand with my razor-edged constructs and feel pain I have endured for millenia.”
Valdoartus Varsoon is struck down by an ice comet!
You say, “Hail, Professor Fondfate”
Professor Fondfate says to you, “It’s over, isn’t it?”
You say to Professor Fondfate, “Yes. I met the Ethernauts in the Void, and together we confronted the architect of all of this: Anashti Sul. She was being assisted by Varsoon. The Ethernauts knew they couldn’t take her on by themselves, but were about to try to make a desperate attempt anyway. With us coming in, we were able to take on Varsoon, and they took on Anashti.”
Professor Fondfate says to you, “The Ethernauts themselves! I wish I could have been there! What happened to them?”
You say to Professor Fondfate, “I’m not sure… They’re gone, though. I don’t think they’re returning to Norrath. Being in the Void was strange. I don’t envy them anything… It seems that the first time through, they were betrayed. Roadyle was someone else in disguise… I believe Miragul…”
Professor Fondfate says to you, “What? What did he do? I never trusted that Roadyle! From the moment he entered the story, he seemed fishy!”
You say to Professor Fondfate, “Yes, well, when the others went to explore the palace, they left the Staff of Theer with Roadyle and Eylee. Roadyle… Miragul.. clubbed her and took it. After that, all they had was Scryona. It didn’t completely destroy the anchor, but it did deactivate it, which is why it was able to eventually work again.”
Professor Fondfate says to you, “I see… Well, hopefully now it is destroyed for good.”
You say to Professor Fondfate, “Yes, we can hope.”
Professor Fondfate says to you, “Thank you for indulging an old man and telling me what happened. I do like to know that a tale has an ending.”
You say to Professor Fondfate, “Yes.”
Professor Fondfate says to you, “Here, take one of these.”
You say to Professor Fondfate, “What is this?”
Professor Fondfate says to you, “It’s an authorization letter. The city’s leaders are in possession of items belonging to the heroes of the past. These are replicas, nothing more, but are made from descriptions of the bard’s. But not too shabby, eh?”
You say to Professor Fondfate, “I see, yes, not too shabby at all.”
You have entered Antonia Bayle’s Chambers.
Tiny says, “Step back, you. You’re not to go any further into the Queen’s personal chambers than this. You’ll find her the other way.”
Murrar Shar says, “My friend… you are mistaken. I landed the killing blow.”
Sir Bayden Cauldthorn says, “And I tell you that it was I who slew the yeti!”
Whiselia says, “I serve the princess diligently!”
You say, “Hail, Princess Saphronia”
Princess Saphronia says, “I was not happy to be asked to come here, but now that I have, I believe it was for the best.”
You say, “Hail, Sir Bayden Cauldthorn”
Sir Bayden Cauldthorn says, “Just call me Bayden, the sir part sounds so pretentious.”
You say, “Hail, Murrar Shar”
Murrar Shar says, “I bid you welcome. Enjoy a refreshment, my friend here certainly has.”
You say, “Hail, General Golias Sydwen”
General Golias Sydwen says, “Mind your tongue with the Queen.”
You say, “Hail, Queen Antonia Bayle”
Queen Antonia Bayle says to you, “Hello, Xiea, you bear good news, I hope?”
You say to Queen Antonia Bayle, “I do. I have worked with the Scholars of the Lost to loosen the Void’s hold on Norrath.”
Queen Antonia Bayle says to you, “It does my heart good to hear it. Tell me, how did it all happen?”
You say to Queen Antonia Bayle, “You’ve heard nothing of the events, Antonia?”
Queen Antonia Bayle says to you, “Well, I have, but it would do me honor to hear it from the lips of the actual hero.”
You say to Queen Antonia Bayle, “Of, of course. Well, we managed to restore the artifact that the Ethernauts used to close the portals in the past… The Staff of Theer… and used it to destroy the first two anchors holding the Void to Norrath.”
Queen Antonia Bayle says to you, “Do continue.”
You say to Queen Antonia Bayle, “We then incited a war between the Ykeshans and the Brokenskull to break the defenses the shadow-possessed trolls had enacted around the final anchor. Once that was done, I entered the Void to confront the final anchor in the Moors of Ykesha.”
Queen Antonia Bayle says to you, “And then?”
You say to Queen Antonia Bayle, “I actually encountered the Ethernauts themselves. They ended up trapped there when a member of their party turned out to be a betrayer — Miragul the lich, in fact, thrust into their time when he was traveling the ether. He stole the staff, but something must have gone wrong when it tried to use it because many of the runes were gone and he had long since lost it.”
Queen Antonia Bayle says to you, “Very interesting!”
You say to Queen Antonia Bayle, “As it turned out, Anashti Sul was behind the invasion, and the Void lost Varsoon was working with her to transport her to Norrath with her army of shadowmen. The Ethernauts took on Anashti as my party took on Varsoon. Fortunately, we both managed to overcome our opponents.”
Queen Antonia Bayle says to you, “And the Ethernauts? What became of them? I should like to talk to them, especially the one named Bayle.”
You say to Queen Antonia Bayle, “They… didn’t come out. Anashti and everything in the room was sucked away… including them.”
Queen Antonia Bayle says to you, “Oh dear, I am sorry to hear that.”
You say to Queen Antonia Bayle, “Hopefully they’ve found respite somewhere… They deserve it.”
Queen Antonia Bayle says to you, “I hope so too… Well, Xiea, you have done a great thing here today. All of Norrath should and will know of your heroism.”
You say to Queen Antonia Bayle, “Thank you, Antonia.”
Queen Antonia Bayle says, “All of Norrath should and will know of your heroism.”
