Sap Root Stem

Verant/SOE

Sap Root Stem

These mushrooms rapidly absorb decaying organic materal like it's a tasty treat. If you leave enough of it near their stalks, they will suck it in and give off a healing glow. I believe they have a symbiotic relationship with the sporali who keep them well fed. I suppose they now have a symbiotic relationship with me too because I also keep them well fed. I'm not sure what that means exactly.

Field Analysis of Sap Root Stem:

Nargilor Coral

Navigator Hobbson encountered the remains of a shiliskin this morning (Well, 'morning' judging by the cyle of the automated chores of our clockworks, but really, who can tell in this place?). Interestingly enough, the corpse had a small piece of coral on in its possession. At first, Hobbson pocketed the coral and thought nothing of it, but now, resting back at our camp, he has the distinct impression that the coral is listening to our conversations. He believes it is alive. Personally, I think we are all slowly losing our minds down here. None the less, a field test was in order. My research did reveal that there is some kind of telepathic property associated with this little creature, but it's near impossible to determine exactly what it is.

Sporali

Based on my preliminary studies, it appears that the sporali species possesses an extended memory across family members! Each spore is born with all the memories of its parents which explains why the sporali down here know of the Pickclaw goblins. The only exceptions seem to be the free spores, which are born without any memories or instincts. These individual must travel far and wide to establish new colonies. Tomorrow I will track the one I found yesterday and follow it deeper towards the Lake to the south. Not sure where it's going, but its gait is determined and purposeful, if not a little jaunty. My curiosity is piqued.

Stasis Cocoons

I've spent the past few days following the freemind sporali -- a sort of family-free sporali -- deeper into the caves when me and my clockwork assistant encountered some shiliskin that were wrapped in webs. When we cut them loose, the shiliskin were surprisingly alive! By the looks of things, they had been in there for several years! Thankfully they were too weak to attack us and instead ran off into the darkness. Still, I wonder what kind of a creature could create a cocoon that would leave a victim in stasis for so long? It's almost as th--
