Retch Spores

Retch Spores

A most fascinating mushroom has sprouted near our latrine near the crash site! When I attempted to remove it, it released a spore cloud that promptly threw me into a fit of coughing and vomiting!

Field Analysis of Retch Spores:

Appearance: Brown and Moldy

Texture: Bumpy Taste: Unpleasant Effects of Poking with a Stick: Me vomiting

Nimbus Mushroom

While exploring the southern tunnels, I encountered a mushroom stalk that began to glow as I approached. I started to conduct my field analysis but the light attracted some predators and I had to make an expeditious retreat! I believe this fungus protects itself from herbivores by attracting predators with light! These caves are so dim that the light can be seen from a great distance. Very clever, little plant, but you will be no match for my Raveldreep Light Omitter sack.

Field Analysis of Nimbus Mushroom:

Appearance: Pale Mushroom that stands about chin high (if you are gnome) Texture: Bumpy Taste: Potatoes (might have been the sack) Effects of Poking with a Stick: Generates light!

Mindspore Toadstool

By Brell! I believe the sporali breed these mushrooms specifically to defend their colonies from raiders. Yesterday I saw this plant launch a seed right into the forehead of a shiliskin. The spore then appeared to transform the shiliskin into a zombie! The plant feeds off the decaying bodies of its victims while simultaneously using them as guards against potential predators. Brilliant! What's even better is that the plant only seems to affect shiliskin so I was free to conduct my research without risk to myself, which was most fortuitous.

Field Analysis of Mindspore Toadstool:

Appearance -- Toadstools surrounded by shilikin zombies. Texture - Spongy Taste - Also spongy (with a refined oil aftertaste) Effects of Poking with a Stick -- Nothing, although one of the zombies punched me

Deathshed Mushroom

I had to bribe a shiliskin exile for information before I figured out what these mushrooms are all about. Well, first I had to learn to communicate with the fish head. Apparently they're highly poisonous and are believed to possess magical properties. Indeed, young shiliskin who are training to become healers take part in a ritual that involves eating an entire deathshed mushroom. Those that survive the ritual tend to experience strange, feverous dreams of the shiliskin afterlife and awaken with rudimentary powers. I guess even the older, tougher shiliskin eat pieces for power.

Field Analysis of Deathshed Mushroom:

Appearance -- A shiny black mushroom Texture - Rather tough and leathery Taste -- No thank you Effects of Poking with a Stick -- None

Manasheen Toadstool

These mushrooms drop some tasty fruit that is ripe with sugar and magic. When I bit into one of the pieces of fruit I could feel magical energy surging through me. It was kind of like that one time I was electrocuted trying to fix the Tinblinker generator back home, but this actually felt good. Also, if you supply these plants with decaying vegetable matter, they will begin increasing the amount of fruit they drop. I believe they have a symbiotic relationship with the sporali who seem harvest the fruit regularly.

Field Analysis of Manasheen Toadstool:

Appearance -- A yellow mushroom Texture - Fuzzy Taste - Excellent and a little like jum jum if I must compare Effects of Poking with a Stick -- None
