Teir'Dal Raid the Commonlands!

The ever present shadow cast by the Teir'Dal over the Commonlands and our city has grown darker over the past few days. Many reports of banditry, murder and other vile acts of cruelty have been heard across the Commonlands. These acts are being committed by several seemingly uncoordinated groups of Dark Elves.

At this moment the death count rises, for both the citizens of Freeport and for the Dark Elves. The Freeport militia is currently the only defense the people of the Commonlands have. The guardsmen have stood their ground and they plan to increase the amount of patrols across the Commonlands.

If an inkie shows her face around my platoon, she won't live to see the darkness of Neriak again!" spouted Corporal Varus, one of the younger members of the militia. "The Dark Elves have been a thorn in our sides for too long! Now they are asking for it! I say we turn their underground city into a funeral pyre and be rid of them for good!"

While these words are encouraging to hear from our defenders, the death toll speaks differently. The only survivors of these attacks are those that have been able to defeat their assailants. Those who do not resist or those who were overmatched in skill or numbers, have been slain. So, citizens, do not travel alone, do not travel unarmed and be sure to practice your skills with a blade.

The motivation for the attacks to this point still seems unclear; we spoke to the captain of the Freeport militia as to the reason behind these attacks.

There is something more behind this, these acts of terrorism do little but rattle the cage of our great city, and they know this. For years the inkies have been on our borders and while there have been a few isolated incidents, nothing on this scale has ever occurred. In fact it wasn't uncommon to witness an inkie pass harmlessly through the Commonlands and into Kithikor or Ro. I don't believe the Dark Elves plan to go to war, it is something else, it is like they are searching for someone, or something, in the Commonlands. However there is no excuse not to be prepared. If the inkies do march on the gates of Freeport, they will be met by a force more lethal than the fires of Ro. Their armies will disappear like ashes in the wind."

The Freeport Observer sends it condolences to those lost to these merciless attacks. Stay inside the safety of Freeport's sturdy walls if you can. This is one reporter who does not wish to see any more obituaries published at the hands of the Teir'Dal
