Satyrs and the Elddar
Satyrs and the Elddar
Soon after Tunare set her elves upon Norrath in the Elddar forest, life sprang up around them. New plants and creatures emerged and those that had existed for thousands of years on Norrath began to make themselves known to the elves. One of those creatures that came to live among the elves was the satyr.
An alliance grew between the satyrs and the Elddar elves. The satyrs had a gift for entertaining themselves and others and became welcome in the Takish-Hiz courts where the Elddar elves would celebrate along with the satyr and share knowledge with them. Each visit, almost daily, the satyr would bring casks of wine and the most delicious fruits and vegetables.
Over time, the satyr became less allies and more akin to slaves. They became less an equal part of the festivals and gatherings and became treated like jesters and servants who offered food, drink, and entertainment to the elves.
The elders of the satyr tribe had seen their kin being taking advantage of for some years, but chose to say nothing for a time as the festivals gave the satyr great purpose, energy, and joy. They thrived as they wrote new melodies and created new instruments. They even found greater magic in their songs as time went on from what they learned from the Elddar.
And then, at one tribal meeting after being counseled by the elders, Chief Kadunn announced that the satyr would visit the Elddar no more and that they would move their village farther into the northern forests. He decreed that from then on the proud and majestic satyr would no longer allow any creature -- large or small -- to take advantage of their good nature. They would, for all time, work only for the good of one another.
And so the satyrs abandoned their village near Takish-Hiz and headed farther north, deep into the woods. And it is there where they have remained.
The arrival of the drakkin awakened many fears in those satyrs who knew the history of their tribe with the Elddar, particularly one named Devan - the great, great, great grandson of Elder Mikal, adviser to Chief Kadunn.
