Giants!

Day 10

Out of the frying pan and into the fire, they say. Only in this case, its more like out of the refrigerator and into the freezer. Our party is collecting tales to fill their grandchildrens evenings for centuries! A chance encounter led to another amazing discovery! seems our party found a frost giant nearly buried under an avalanche

(they assumed it must be a giant by the size 35 boots sticking out) and the gnomes instinctively dug him out. Whether it was for scientific investigation or true humanitarianism is difficult to say.

Wandering sentries, apparently searching for their injured companion, discovered the group healing the giant. Naturally, after hearing tales of giants attacking and slaughtering the Coldain dwarves, the gnomes expected to receive similar treatment, but surprises are not scarce on this frozen continent and today brought yet another.

The giants eyed the adventurers warily, but demonstrated their gratitude for the assistance. It seems their race is amenable to peacemaking efforts! The group was invited back to the nearby outpost to rest and recover before continuing their journeys.

Several images of the giants in the outpost were collected by the party and returned to us. They have a curious manner of styling their hair and beards, and armor that seems to be created of overlapping plates. One cannot help but think of dragon scales, which may well have inspired the look.

What an experience it must have been, to be a gnome among giants. One of the images sent back was captured by one of the gnomes who was standing very close to the giants boot at the time. The effect is almost dizzying!

The frost giants have offered to guide our friends to their fortress deep inside the earth, and to do so they will be traveling back through the Great Divide, and re-entering the Eastern Wastes, in order to reach the entrance to the Storm Giant city Kael Drakkel.

During this trek, the lighting was perfect as they neared the hidden entrance to Thurgadin, behind the waterfall, and the group decided to share an image. Passing so close to the dwarven stronghold prompted the giant guides to recount tales of centuries of armed dispute between the two races. It seemed prudent to our explorers to refrain from mentioning their recent visit.

Traveling atop the shoulders of their giant escorts for expediencys sake, the adventurers had many opportunities to capture images of the surrounding countryside at their leisure. Velium outcroppings thrust up through the snow in spots and brightened the surrounding areas with their magical glow. The mountains seem so beautiful to us, here, who are not exposed to the harsh elements of the ice continent, though many are anxious to explore.

Finally, at sunset, after having traversed great distances in what to the gnomes seemed a much reduced period of time, the party reached the outer gates of Kael and prepared to camp for the night. In the morning, their guides promise to introduce them to the Storm Giant rulers of the great fortress-city, Kael Drakkel.
