Overview

Drawn from Half Elf compiled history.EQ1Community article

Half Elves are born from the far from uncommon union of Elves and Humans. They have inherited some of the strength and agility natural to their parent races and resemble more 'softly' built Humans with the facial caracteristics of Elves. Though Half Elves are a result of a clear break through in the barriers between races, they often suffer from discrimination and prejudice within their own societies. They are not considered to 'belong' to either race and the life of a Half Elf can be lonely, as an unwilling outsider, though many find a home within the guilds and societies of their professions.

Half Elves have many of the values and beliefs common to the Elves and seem to find the Wood Elf city of Kelethin more attractive than any other. Out of this city Half Elves commonly train as Bards, apparently finding the qualities of song and dance a great comfort to them. Many others turn to nature and a great deal of those will become Druids and Rangers, despite their somewhat flighty nature. The forest they serve cares little for the race of its wardens and Half Elves who choose natures cause often develop a close bond with the creatures they have decided to protect.

Despite the indifference an even cruelty Half Elves can face among their own kinds, they are found to be a generous and caring people. Those who show they can see beyond the 'Half Breed' prejudices will always find a loyal and dedicated friend beyond initial weariness and caution.Half Elves spend a great deal of time with their companions; the lack of any close ties within cities of their birth means they are free to join them to adventure and explore. Half Elves usually develop far closer friendships than the other races, seeing their companions as their true family and kin.

While they have retained Elven features and dexterity, the magical energies common of Elven kind have deserted them. Half Elves tend to be stronger and hardier, similar to the more muscular build of the Humans. They are, however, much more nimble and dexterous than their Humanlike build would indicate and seem to have retained the Elves' natural agility, as well as their ability to see in the dark. Those abilities mean they take well to the path of a Rogue, Finally some seek to emulate their human side more closely and follow the path of the Warrior or Paladin. They may worship a great variety of deities due to their mixed heritage.

Drawn from The History of Ayr'Dal (House Item) in-game book.EQ2Primary · mirrored · best available source

Through my own experiences, I have gained knowledge and insight into the Ayr'Dal. Each part of this history tome can only be completed in its own time.

Story 1

My name is Trinni Mellosius and I'm a half-elf. I guess that's why my teacher asked me to write a research paper about our history. As if we have a history of our own! But since I need to pass this class, I guess I'll write one.

So you're walking around Qeynos, or maybe even Freeport (I live in Willow Wood, so I just have to guess about you-know-where) and you see someone who has pointy ears like an elf, is taller than an elf, but not so tall as a human and what have you got? Ayr'Dal!

In my opinion, which doesn't necessarily reflect the view of my teacher, half-elves are gorgeous, with our pointy ears and great complexions. I mean, high elves look kind of scrawny next to one of us, don't they? They're... ethereal-like. It's kind of creepy.

Obviously, we're called half-elves because half our blood is elvish. What makes the other half? Human! I don't know that there's any half-elf that's like, half elf and half dwarf, so it's always half-human. Why they don't call us half-human, I don't know.

Actually, I do know: half-human is an insult. Which makes me wonder: is half-elf supposed to be an insult, too? That would be pretty rotten, don't you think? Anyway, back to our history. So, an elf and a human fell in love and their baby turned out to be one of us.

Gifted with the characteristics of two races, half elves can adapt to either human or elven society with relative ease. Despite this, half elves have no free-standing culture of their own and often fear they are doomed to be perpetual awkwardness among either of their parent races.

Half elven armor symbols borrow heavily from the characteristics of both elven and human symbols. Many of the half elven armor symbols are based on high elf designs, but incorporate human 'suffixes' and elaborations. The result is a hybrid language of armor runes and an evolved art form distinct from either of its parent branches.

Preface: The lands lay in turmoil for so many years that many felt they were being punished by the gods. Almost as suddenly as they had begun, the Rending stopped. Why the lands were suddenly calmed is unknown, except to those who believe. This is a story of how the Rending was stopped. Others may tell their own stories, but for the faithful, there can be onl…

Are ye calling me a liar? Why, I'll punch ye right in the kneecap!" Anturan sighed as he walked beside his excitable friend. "No, I'm not calling you a liar. I just haven't seen it myself is all." The dwarf grumbled. "Well, I'm tellin' ye that I seen 'em. Tall, lanky Erudites hovering around the ol' spire ruins.

Travels into a Remote Corner of Faydark

In-game bookSOE-EQ2

Travels into a Remote Corner of Faydark by Yuille Maclemuel I have wasted little time before to write of my travels, but my recent adventure in The Faydark forest inspired me. I was going through Lesser Faydark on my way to the docks of Butcherblock after battling some enjoyably putrid undead within the Loping Plains, on my flying carpet.

A Collection of Epitaphs (House Item)

In-game bookSOE-EQ2

The poetry and stories have a homey simplicity about them, especially those written during times of great stress throughout the world. The frayed edges of the pages upon which these verses are copied is a mute testament to those who read this book before, several times. The epitaphs are grouped roughly by race. Not all Norrathian races are represented, althou…
